Paris - French Studies

Program Overview

Paris French Studies

With its grand boulevards, world-famous monuments, and iconic skyline (think: the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, and Sacré Coeur!), it will be difficult to leave this charmingly romantic city. Along with its many historic world-renowned museums, art flourishes in Paris in the form of public gardens, sidewalk cafés, and outdoor markets, fragrant with fresh fruit and pastries.

This program combines rigorous study of the French language with a broad range of classes taught in French by accomplished faculty. You can also experience what life is like for French students by taking one or more courses at a local French university. Tutoring is available if you need help with the transition to higher education in France.

Visit for complete program details.

NOTE: Program dates listed in Studio Abroad are approximate. Please refer to IES Abroad predeparture materials for planning travel.

Internship Opportunity
Interning abroad as part of your study abroad experience will help distinguish your application for graduate school or a job opportunity in today’s competitive market. It’s an exhilarating challenge, and IES can help guide you in securing your placement and succeeding in your internship.  Participating in an internship abroad helps you:
  • Add international work experience to your résumé
  • Gain real work experience and skills
  • Build your confidence
All of the internships are supervised and are offered for credit. You participate in a seminar to complement the practical experience you gain during the internship.

Past students have interned in the following fields. Don’t see your field listed here? Just talk to your IES Abroad Advisor—new internships are always being added!
  • Communications
  • Art Galleries
  • Business & Marketing
  • Cooking Schools
  • Education
  • Non-Governmental Organizations

Housing and Meals
IES facilitates housing placements in homestays and apartments (limited number, extra cost).  Students who choose the homestay option - which is highly recommended - will stay in a French home in the city of Paris or its surrounding banlieues (suburbs), and have breakfast daily and three evening meals per week with your host(s). Other meals are available at university cafeterias and inexpensive restaurants. Students will have the option to request a typical homestay placement or a placement in a chambre de bonne (a separate room in the building of a homestay apartment).
Students should consult the Budget Sheets at the top of this page for estimated program costs. For the most up-to-date cost information, please visit the IES Abroad website. In addition, before choosing to study abroad in another country for anywhere from three to six months, you should consider the exchange rate of your host country as well as the cost of living in the city where you will be.

Samantha Errasquin, Fall 2016 Participant
This was one of the most amazing experiences I have had. I learned in a way that changed who I am. Not everything was always easy, but without the hard things you wouldn't see the great experience you are living in that moment. I loved this program and I recommend it to everyone who has interest in France and has no fears of just throwing themselves to a world they don't know :)
