Academics
Students on this program will enroll in four courses at the University of Auckland.  (See Four Course Policy information below.)  Students will be fully integrated into the New Zealand academic system and will take courses alongside local students and other international students.  Past students have enjoyed courses related to Maori culture, politics and society, but Business and Science courses are also available.  Please review the "Course Restriction" page of IFSA-Butler's website before applying to this program, as some courses and subject areas are not available to international students.

SJU Four Course Policy
It is understood that Saint Joseph's students who participate on the IFSA-Butler: University of Auckland program are only permitted to take four, 4-credit courses abroad, but will only receive three SJU credits per course.  Due to the fact that this may impact a student’s graduation course requirements, Saint Joseph's University will waive one free elective for the student upon their return, provided they meet the following conditions:
  • The student must have one free elective remaining over and above the ones taken with the study abroad program.
  • The student will still have at least 120 credits at time of graduation.
  • The student MUST remain enrolled as a full-time student according to the study abroad program’s requirements.
  • The student is obliged to successfully complete all coursework on the study abroad program and pass each of the four courses taken abroad.
Students participating on this program will be required to sign a Four Course Policy Form at the time of application.  If you do not have a free elective available to waive, please contact the CIP to discuss your options.

Internship Opportunity
Gain valuable career experience through this credit-bearing internship opportunity. Following an introductory series of seminars at the beginning of the semester, you will work 6-8 hours per week at your placement in the Auckland area, keeping a journal of your experience. You will complete an internship research project related to the organization’s strategic goals or core purpose. Students completing this course receive 4 U.S. semester credits.

You must apply for the internship course in advance, no later than two weeks before the beginning of the semester. The application form is online and students must submit an academic reference.

Past interns have worked with the following organizations:
