Study Abroad Photo Contest

2013 Photo Contest Kelsey Schr

Eligibility
The photo contest is open to Saint Joseph’s University undergraduates who studied abroad during the 2013-2014 academic year. For purposes of the contest, the academic year comprises of fall 2013, spring 2014, summer 2014. This includes year abroad, semester abroad, SJU Summer Programs, non-SJU summer/winter programs, and SJU Study Tours. Photos must be original work (no professional photos) and must have been taken during their study abroad period (no photos of the entrant).

Subject Matter
Entries do not have to be limited to your program site. (A student studying in Florence, for example, could submit a photo taken in Venice during an interim sojourn.) We also reserve the right to exclude any photos deemed “inappropriate” by the University. Students should submit photos in the following categories:

Academics
Photos should capture students actively engaged and learning in the classroom, on a class excursion, or other learning setting, including nontraditional settings. Photographs in this category can either be taken by or of the entrant.

Cultural Engagement
Photos should depict students participating in a local activity, actively involved in the local culture, or interacting with the local population. Photographs in this category can either be taken by or of the entrant.

Landscape
Photos should be of a landmark or landscape that is clearly identifiable as an international location that captures the spirit of study abroad. Photographs in this category must have been taken by the entrant.

Number and Format of Submissions
  • If you meet the eligibility requirements, you may submit one photograph per category.
  • Photos must be submitted in electronic form.
  • Photographs may be black-and-white or color. 
  • Photo formats accepted are .jpg or .png.
  • Digital submissions must be uploaded using the online submission form by clicking 'Apply Now' above. No email submissions or prints will be accepted.
Application Process and Deadline
Photo submissions will need to be submitted by 11:59pm September 15th.

Judging
Entries will be evaluated by a team of judges from across campus. Judges decisions are final.

Prizes
Prizes will be awarded to 1st place & 2nd place winners in each category. The winners will be notified by e-mail or phone.

All entries will be displayed on the SJU Study Abroad Facebook page, the CIP website, during International Education week, and an announcement will be made to students, faculty and staff on mySJU. In addition, photographs may be used by the CIP for office promotions online or in print.

Important Advisory
By submitting images, you are attesting that you have the rights to use the image and give the Center for International Programs the right to use the image for promotional purposes. Copyright remains with photographer and the Center for International Programs will not sell images to any third party. Photographer will be credited when possible, but may not always receive credit.
